Home of the Flames

A.B. Ellis Public School is located in Espanola on Mead Boulevard, five kilometers south of the junction with Highway 17 in the La Cloche Foothills.

A.B. Ellis Public School provides quality English language programming and character education for students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, enabling each student to maximize their potential and fulfill their aspirations. We are leaders in learning in Espanola, inspiring success for all students.

A.B. Ellis offers full-day Kindergarten programming staffed by teachers and full-time Designated Early Childhood Educators. This exciting blend of professionals affords our youngest students the chance to enjoy many play-based learning opportunities under the watchful guidance of high-skilled adults.

Our community partners at One Tot Stop Daycare provide a wonderful before and after-school program for students 4 to 12 years old. In addition, they provide childcare for children 0 to 4 years old throughout the day. This ensures continuity for our families who have young children who are not yet school-aged. Please contact the daycare at 705-869-3282 for more information.

Students in junior and intermediate grades have the opportunity to learn French or Ojibwe. In addition to having instruction in a second language, students learn about the culture and history that these important groups play in the building of our wonderful community. The Ojibwe program is enhanced by the yearly arrival of students in Grades 7 and 8 from Whitefish River First Nation.

A.B. Ellis is home to three Intensive Support Programs for students identified with Behaviour, Developmental Disability, and Autism. These programs provide support for students living in Massey, Webbwood, Espanola, and surrounding areas. Teachers and staff in these programs receive extensive training in the area of special education in order to meet the needs of these exceptional learners.

Students in Grades 1-8 take part in Dare to Care lessons, teaching them anti-bullying strategies, learning the difference between mean moments and bullying behaviours, and building a tool kit for responding in healthy ways to unkind behaviours.

We have a dedicated group of staff and students who work throughout the school year to ensure our school is more sustainable.  Our Eco Club organizes monthly activities to engage our school community in reducing our ecological footprint on our environment.   Congratulations to our Eco Club for helping us to achieve platinum standing in the 2024-2025 school year!

A.B. Ellis is pleased to offer a daily breakfast program. This is made possible due to the generous donations of Better Beginnings Better Futures and Breakfast Clubs of Canada, as well as partnerships with local businesses and grants from President’s Choice Children’s Charity.

A.B. Ellis offers a wide variety of activities, including an Open House BBQ, Holiday Pancake Breakfast, theatre performances, and talent shows. We also have many school teams including volleyball, basketball, soccer, cross-country running, and track and field. These activities provide opportunities to develop social skills, friendships, commitment, and sportsmanship. Our students consistently make our staff and families proud when representing A.B. Ellis!
